We create new living conditions for the bees.
Four beehives have been set up on the roof of our office, which is located at 36A Mickiewicza street. Every day, a total of 150,000 bees work vigorously for 80 kilograms of honey from each honey harvest.
The properly poured golden liquid is then packaged up in dedicated branded jars with labels. Afterwards, the products are added to the Christmas packages, which are gifted to our employees and selected contractors.
Our apiary is being taken care of on a daily basis by professionals and enthusiasts from the Pszczelarium - Warsaw.
Did you know that running beehives in the city is far more complex and demanding than traditional beekeeping? This is primarily because of the size of the apiaries and the general access to the beehives. It involves approximately 4 to 5 times as many activities, such as complying with the special work and safety principles, sourcing honey in smaller tonnages and time-consuming packaging.
Honey harvest in the Optima apiary
Harvesting honey takes place twice a year, from the end of July through the beginning of August. We approach our hives on a warm and sunny day. The best time to inspect the honey frames that are ready to be harvested is in the afternoon, when most of the bees are outside the hive. This also lessens the possibility of ‘robbing’, which occurs when bees invade other hives and steal honey from outside colonies.
We can extract up to 20 kilos of honey from each of our hives. That in total gives us 80 kilos of golden syrup from one honey harvest.
